August 17, 2005: Blog. Seriously? Are they kidding me? Have we become so fast-paced in our world that we can't say web log? We have to say blog? The word actually makes me physically ill. It is the epitome of all that is wrong with our world...okay, that might be pushing it a bit, but it's the epitome of something...and I'll let you ponder that on your own free time. You know, the spare time you have left after reading Zack Braff's (dare I say it one more time?) blog.

Now, I'm all about having an online JOURNAL to share the inner-workings of the existence that is my life with my friends and family . But no. No-No-No! This is not a...no, I'm not saying it again. I think I've made my point. And while we're at it, no, I don't have a personal podcast for you to listen to either. Geesh! Sometimes technology is just a bit overwhelming. And yet, at the same time, my bread and butter is paid for solely by the existence of it, so I won't complain too loudly.

As this is my first entry, I won't linger too much...just wanted to put it out there and see if I could get myself in a routine of updating it. I'm going to shoot for weekly...we'll see how that goes. Life is crazy right now, but this is kinda fun, and a break from the norm, so you may just get lucky and get extra bonus coverage sometimes. Whee! Yes, you can say it. IT IS YAY!!

Ciao.

August 27, 2005: Open letter to Truett Cathy, Founder of Chick-fil-A...

PLEASE put a Chick-fil-A in San Jose, California. PLEASE! I don't usually beg for things, but I NEEEEEEED the chicken! It's not right that I should have to travel over an hour to find it. It really is the best chicken. If you came to my office, you'd know that I'm an addict...which is possibly a reason not to build a Chick-fil-A here, but let's not get lost in that.

In my office resides the CFA bobblehead cow, the CFA antenna topper, the CFA leather portfolio, the CFA bandaid holder...shall I go on? It's not because I've purchased these things for myself, but because my friends are enablers of my addiction and have filled my office with these fabulous treats. I think they too would benefit from the building of a Chick-fil-A in San Jose.

So please Mr. Cathy...bring Chick-fil-A to San Jose. We need it!

Thank you.

September 10, 2005: As I sit here watching the React Now special on MTV, to support the relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina, I can't help but feel how lucky I am. Lucky enough to live in a country where I'm free to watch what I want, when I want...to have musicians, athletes, celebrities who donate their time and energy to help...to see regular people take time off from their jobs to help...to be able to worship how I want and who I want...and lucky to have been blessed with friends, family and a safe place to live.

I can't even imagine what the individuals in the affected areas are going through, but watching their amazing spirit on TV and reading about them online and in the paper just inspires me to want to be a better person...to want to live more like Jesus lived and to act...not to react.

We are a society of reacters, and I am certainly included in that. Sometimes it's because we don't know how to act or when to act. I want to be an acter...one who acts, rather than reacts. There will always be situations that require a reaction, such as this type of natural disaster, but in general, we need to act...act on behalf of those who can't. Act because we have the freedom to. Act because we are blessed and have so much to give. Act because we can.

There are so many ways to give...here are a couple of good options...

Ellen TV (matching up to $500k to the Red Cross)

Third Day (matching up to $50k to World Vision, and donating additional $1 for downloads of new song, "Cry out to Jesus")

Bye for now.

September 24, 2005: Barry Lamar Bonds. Love him or hate him, you have to admit he can hit the ball. Last Sunday, I got to be a part of the homerun chase at the Giants/Dodgers game for #705 - a splash hit into the bay. Wow. What a sight to see. And the Giants won the game over their hated SoCal rivalry, so there was joy all around. I've seen Barry hit a homerun before...a grand slam actually. That was back in 1991 when he played for the Pirates. I have to say, this was more exciting. Maybe it's the ball park (because SBC is a fabulous place to see a game), maybe it's because it was a gorgeous day...whatever the case, I'm so happy to say I was there. For a brief moment or two earlier this week, I wondered if Barry might not just make it to 715 or 716 this year. I really don't think it's going to happen, but it's sure fun to watch. Even if you don't like baseball, you have to admire his comeback.

I am still holding out hope for the post-season, but it's waning fast. And honestly, it would be better for the team to stop playing and get healthy. Of course, next year, we'll just be another year older, and we've already got orange & black canes in the dugout, so it's a toss-up as to which is the best way to go. Whoever does win the NL West probably won't make it out of the first round because we're all rather pathetic...but if it's the Giants, you know I'll be cheering!

Now, for those of you also following the AL pennant race, let me just say this...Boston needs to go. Get out. Stop torturing us. Being a Yankee fan for most of my life, I naturally despise THEM. I won't say more of their name here because it might make others ill, and I can't be held responsible for that. I realize many feel this way about my beloved Yankees, and that's fair...ridiculous and crazy, but fair. Everyone has a right to their opinion...however misguided it might be. But nonetheless, I say with pride, Go Yankees!

That's all for now...play ball!

October 8, 2005: Ding Dong, the Sox are dead...well, not dead exactly, but out of the playoffs. And that's the Sox of Red by the way, defeated by the Sox of White. Woo-hoo!! It's not looking good for the Yankees...maybe a rain-out today will do them some good. We'll see. I've been getting way too stressed out watching the games, so it's probably best that I just look at the score after-the-fact.

Now, if I could briefly comment on the debacle that was the ASU/USC game last weekend...GUH! Stupid Trojans. That's it, that's all I have to say...meanwhile, I'll be cheering for them today as they face the evil U of A. It's the only time I will cheer for USC.

College football season is one of my favorite things...provided of course that my teams are winning. I'm doing well so far this year...I have ASU ranked in the top 25 which is great, and WVU and Wyoming have only lost one game each (Wyoming is losing right now though, so that stat could change). My poor SJSU Spartans have had some rough days, but they're gonna get there.

Well, get out there and cheer for your favorite team...provided it's not a team that is a mortal enemy of one of my teams. Because, well, that would just be wrong...and there would have to be words, and well, frankly, I just don't have the time for that. So, cheer for my favorite teams, and things will be much easier.

Thanks, and happy cheering!

October 29, 2005: Random musings on random things...that's what [gag] blogs are supposed to be about, right? Don't be scared, I'm still anti the word blog, but I am enjoying this online journaling idea...to share with you the not-so-deep inner thoughts in my brain. It blows my mind that there are hundreds of thousands of you out there doing the same thing. But I digress...what's on my random mind today?

Smokers. Could you please keep your filthy habit to yourself? You invade my space everywhere I go. In your car...wait, not IN your car, that wouldn't bother me. No. You have to hang your filthy stick of cancer inducing tobacco out your window for all to inhale. Thanks for that. Now I have to roll up my windows, close my sunroof and turn on the inside air. Why should I have to change because of you? It's just really unfair. And then, I get out of my car, and walk to the store...and there you are again...lingering outside the door (not the appropriate number of feet from the building either I might point out)...puffing your lungs away...literally.

And I've heard you complaining loudly when your "rights" for smoking in public places are taken away (restaurants, planes, etc). Ya know what? What about my rights? My right to clean, cancer-inducing free air. My right to breathe. See, I think mine are WAY more important. Sorry...but that's the reality of it.

Whew. I feel better. Off to find my inhaler...gee, can't imagine why I have such bad asthma some days...
