December 30, 2007 - Hey, it's my 5th entry this year!

January 1, 2007: ...New Year - so cliche I know, but how can you write something on January 1 and not say it? However, I do offer some options for you. Happy...

...Rose Parade watching

...Mountaineer cheering (South Florida and Louisville bashing...but I'm not bitter...)

...Last day before returning to work lounging

...Sun is shining, and it's not raining (or snowing!)

...Chex Mix eating

So, whatever makes you happy today...enjoy!

I don't do resolutions to start off the new year. Seriously. Could anything be more futile? I'm not sure. But I've never done it, and I don't intend to start now. I think we all hope to be better people as each new year arrives...eat better, exercise more, stay in touch with people better, etc. Yeah, it's boring isn't it? Admit it. You know it is. I'm not bothered by people who DO make resolutions...and I try not to say "I told you so" when they don't come to fruition. Although sometimes it IS tempting. For those of you trying to make a new start at something this year, I wish you all the best. For those of you that have given up that annual effort and are just on a neverending quest to be a better person, best of luck to you as well. I hope our paths cross at some point so we can compare notes.

I better sign off now so I can fully cheer...Let's GOOOOO Mountaineers!

Ciao...

January 13, 2007: Can't really tell you how happy I was to watch Ohio State go down in flames on Monday night. It was pure joy. Now, I have to say...the game itself was not as exciting as the Boise State game the prior Monday, but to see OSU get knocked off their high horse was ultra-joyous. So, all in all, my big loss in the bowl season was ASU. Even though NIU lost, my ties to them are not as strong, and SJSU and WVU both had good wins, so it was a decent bowl season overall.

Back to reality now...and oh joy, I have a wicked cold/flu/sickness thing. It is so not yay. The coughing, the fever, the generally feeling miserableness of it all. I don't recommend it at all. I did make it from the bed to the couch today, after 3 1/2 days of clinging to my covers and electric blanket. I think the fever is finally gone, and while I can't guarantee what I'm typing makes sense, my head does feel a little clearer. I do feel myself starting to fade however, so I'm going to sign off for today.

Hope your 2007 is going well. More to come later...

January 29, 2007: Most of you probably know I have been a huge U2 fan forever. I have seen them three times in concert, and own every album they have made as well as numerous special downloads from iTunes and random other places. I have books, t-shirts, an original One bracelet and memories. What I didn't have until recently was a real understanding of just who they really are.

I recently finished reading Walk On:The Spiritual Journey of U2. Most people who have heard a U2 song or two can sense their spirituality, but that can be heard in a lot of music, and where it's coming from is never quite known. With U2, it's real, and it's right. Even if you're not a fan of their music, I recommend reading this book. Even if you never like their music (crazy person that you will be if that's true!), you have to appreciate where it's all coming from. And if you believe as I do, that Jesus came to save the world - all of it, it means even more.

Being a musician, music probably touches me more than most things considered art...I guess that's natural. I always knew there was at minimum a strong Catholic faith from this band of Dublin's finest, but I never knew how deep it went until I read this book and really met the band.

This book was altogether inspiring and challenging, enlightening and moving. It brought back memories of when I first heard certain songs...of standing outside Sun Devil Stadium in the rain to hear them rehearse for the final Rattle & Hum concerts (I couldn't go due to plane tickets home - bitter!)...of the chill I felt when I heard the first chords at the Vertigo concert in San Jose almost two years ago. There are few things that have touched me like that...

I am not often challenged by books...most that I read these days are fiction, and are for pure entertainment value. And I guess to be honest, it's not the books pages or its cover that brought me to question what is it that our world is really doing with itself...it was the words of the band...primarily Bono, the lead singer, but also by its other members...in their interviews, their insights, and in the lyrics of the songs played on Top 40 and Rock radio stations across the country.

When I read, I usually have my iPod on...mainly to block out all other outside noise and let me focus. Every time I did that with this book, I had to stop whatever was playing and switch to whatever song or album I was reading about. I had to hear it once I learned the true meaning of it.

I could go on and on, but there is not enough space on this page. Just read it. I can't say that it has changed my life, but it sure has made me think about a lot of things.

Until next time...Walk on...

July 4 , 2007: ...to the place where I belong. That's the song that came on the radio (that exact phrase actually) as I pulled out of the driveway of my old apartment for the last time. Wow. It couldn't be more fitting. Here in my new place, I really feel like I'm home. I'll feel better once all the boxes are unpacked and I don't have to navigate a labyrinth like maze every day, but nonetheless, I am home.

Don't know the song? Shame on you. Do you not watch American Idol? Are you not hip to the Daughtry? You need to check it.

This got me to thinking today about other moving songs...

  • Movin' on up (granted, a TV theme song, so not sure it counts, but still...the word is in there, so I'm going with it)
  • Move Along (The All American Rejects)

Okay, those are the only ones I've come up with so far, but hey, I'm tired from all the moving!! Have any thoughts on the matter?

It's funny. My dad moved this year too...never thought I'd see the day he didn't live in Laramie, but it actually happened. I guess it's in my blood as my mom's been looking at places too. Moving is hard work. Even when you have help (and hallelujah that I did! Thanks Mom!). We all just have too much stuff I guess. And even though I purged a ton, I still have 417 boxes laying around here. I seriously just need to purge more often. I'm going to attempt it over the next few months...we'll see how that goes.

Anyway, back to the unpacking...have a fabulous Independence Day/Week/Month. We'll chat again soon...I'm going home.

December 30, 2007: Clearly updating this is not my forte. I mean, it's not like I don't have stuff to say. I'm highly entertaining as most of you know. Maybe it's just that I do so much stuff on the web during my work day that updating it for personal reasons seems excruciating. Or maybe it's that I've become so addicted to Facebook that I can't be bothered to do anything else! Seriously. Could that BE more addicting?

So...here we are...at the end of another year. I've lived in my new place for 6 months now and still, there are things to be hung on the walls and things to be unpacked. I had big plans to take care of that during my holiday break, but so far, all I've accomplished is making a dent in the couch and breaking in my new Christmas quilt. Isn't that what I'm supposed to be doing on vacation?

I did make it to a few movies during my break...I recommend all of them:

Go out and see one or more of these right now! That's right. I can direct YOU to get off YOUR couch and entertain yourselves. I've been there done that. Now's the time for slothfulness. And pizza. Yes. It's time for pizza. Where is that number for Papa John's?

For those of you looking for birthday trivia clues, take heart...they will arrive soon. I'm trying to figure out how to help you without giving away the farm (and no, a farm is not the prize). Geez. I didn't know the questions were so hard! By the way, I never said you couldn't collaborate with others...but just be it known, that if you do, you may not win the prize (again, not a farm...no idea what the prize is honestly...)...or, you may have to share. And really, who needs that?

Okay, I'm out for now. The pizza calls. Happy New Year everyone! Talk to you soon...maybe...we'll see...
